We are saddened by the passing of the founder of Birney’s Miracle Farm Market, my dad, Richard “Dick” Birney, on Friday, May 24, 2013. He had been fighting ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) since 2009. He left this life peacefully and has gone to his eternal home in heaven.

Richard loved working his farm and contributing to his church.  His efforts made an impact on many lives.  His passing is a great loss felt by all those who loved and appreciated him.

In life Richard was pleased that his work will continue through my husband Eric Conkey and myself.  We share dads love of farming and community and pray we can make him proud.  We love you dad.

Calling hours are Tuesday, May 28, 5pm-8pm, at Kauber-Sammons Funeral home, 289 S. Main St. Pataskala.

The Funeral is Wednesday, May 29, at 10am, at Etna United Methodist Church, 500 Pike St Etna Ohio.

Donations to the ALS Association are appreciated.  May is ALS Awareness Month.  The ALS Association website provides information on the disease as well as resources for help to those affected, their families, and their caregivers.  http://www.alsa.org/

Spring is here!

Keeping busy in the greenhouse.  The plants are coming along nicely.  The fields are finally drying out so we were able to start field work this weekend.  Can’t wait until we have fresh produce for dinner! Check out how the work in the green house is going.

Frost…

We’ve been keeping a close watch on the weather, since the freeze scare we had a couple weeks ago.  It looks like we’re going to be getting 2, maybe 3 frosts in a row this weekend, which, if that happens, will wipe out everything that’s left in the fields.  If you still want to come pick, this weekend might be your last chance.  We still have tomatoes, eggplant, and peppers of all kinds in the you pick fields. We will pick off as many things as we can so that we can keep the stand opened for a little while longer. Thank you all for your continued support of our farm, without you, our customers, we couldn’t keep doing what we do!
